Dish Network to Buy Satellite Firm for $1 Billion
Dish Network Corp. agreed to buy satellite company DBSD North America Inc., which is operating under bankruptcy protection, for about $1 billion, as Dish Chief Executive Charles Ergen moves to bulk up his wireless spectrum.

DBSD, a Reston, Va., unit of ICO Global Communications Holdings Ltd., is developing a system that combines both satellite and terrestrial communications capabilities for wireless voice, data and Internet services.

Dish said it will provide a debtor-in-possession credit facility to DBSD that will consist of a term loan of $87.5 million. A hearing on the agreement, which comes after Dish lost an appeal to overturn DBSD's bankruptcy plan, has been set for Feb. 15."
